The Literacy Project

Study Friends Program

The heart of The Literacy Project’s life-long learning programs are the volunteer tutors dedicating their time and energy to teach students in one-to-one tutoring, or group classes. Volunteer tutors working with adults and middle school students, receive training in teaching strategies and techniques from the Literacy Project’s staff. Upon completion of the training, the volunteer tutors are matched with a student or a small group of students.

Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance

Trail Improvement Opportunities

The Vail Valley Mountain Trails Alliance (VVMTA) offers multiple volunteer opportunities to give back to the environment and help improve the hiking and biking trails in the Vail Valley. The VVMTA’s mission is to maintain, educate, advocate for, and build sustainable non-motorized soft surface trails while conserving the natural environment of Eagle County and our public lands. Join one of our Adopt a Trail teams, become a Trail Ambassador, join our Wednesday night trail crew, or contact us to create a customized fun and social trail work day for your group to give back to the environment and community.

Eagle Valley Community Foundation

The Community Market

Come help The Community Market provide healthy, fresh food to local low income families! We could always use an extra set of hands to help out with stocking, packing and composting food over at our main market location in Gypsum. Volunteers can also help collect food donations from local grocery stores or come along to help us distribute food at one of our weekly markets in the late afternoon/evening Monday-Thursday.

If you want to make a difference in our community, sign up to volunteer with us at this website.

Bright Future Foundation

Crisis Hotline

Bright Future Foundation empowers individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault to lead safe, productive lives through prevention services, advocacy, crisis intervention and long-term healing services. Volunteers play a critical role in Bright Future’s work of empowering clients from victims to survivors and contribute over 18,000 service hours each year. Our 24-7 Crisis Hotline is supported by staff and volunteers who answer calls during and after business hours from individuals in the community who are seeking resources, in crisis, or want to learn more about our program.

Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley

ReStore Volunteers & Construction Volunteers

Do you like hands-on tasks? Do you gain satisfaction from helping people find that special piece their looking for? Volunteer at the Habitat ReStore! The Habitat ReStore is looking for volunteers to help sort and price donations, display merchandise, and assist customers. We are also looking for volunteers interested in going on runs with staff to pick up large donated items like furniture and appliances. The ReStore accepts volunteers Monday-Saturday from 9AM-4PM.

The Habitat ReStore collects donated furniture, appliances and reusable building materials and sells these items to the community at a deep discount. All proceeds go to building affordable housing for hard working families in need. The store also diverts approximately 300 tons of materials each year from the Eagle County landfill.

You can also volunteers at a Habitat Vail Valley construction site and build alongside future homeowners and fellow volunteers. Learn home construction skills while helping your neighbors achieve the dream of homeownership. We accept construction volunteers Wednesday-Saturday from 8:30AM-3:30PM.

Sign up to volunteer at habitatvailvalley.org or contact Nick Mejia for more information.

Buddy Mentors

Established in 1983 and based on the national Big Brother/Big Sister model of mentorship, Buddy Mentors strives to inspire and foster youth through building consistent and trusting relationships. Research suggests that when compared to same age peers, youth who are involved with a mentor are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, less likely to skip school, and less likely to engage in physical violence. Youth involved with a mentor show increased confidence in academic work and increased success in relationships with family members.
