Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Community Engagement Manager is an organized, creative, hard-working, and enthusiastic professional managing a diverse workload ranging from community relations and program development to grant administration and clerical record keeping. The Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the Community Conservation Plan. A strong writer, the Coordinator conveys EVLT’s message effectively. 

The Land Trust Alliance defines Community Conservation as “making land conservation relevant by land trusts engaging all people in their communities who have not traditionally been served by, engaged in, or moved by land conservation.” 

A highly organized, detail-oriented, team player, the Manager, in collaboration with the rest of the EVLT team, effectively communicates in each area of the job: goals are clearly and collaboratively established; written work plans/checklists are established, maintained and accessible to the team; and directions, responsibilities, deadlines, and frequent progress updates are clearly and proactively communicated to ED and other team members for all activities. Since EVLT is a small organization, all employees are expected to assist in administrative tasks and to directly assist the EVLT team in carrying out the day-to-day business of the land trust.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Program Management (50%)

  • Manages Community Conservation Plan; planning and execution of community conservation programs, events, and activities
  • Leads EVLT’s Community Conservation Initiative in implementing outreach campaigns to register community feedback
  • Represents EVLT at coalition meetings and other community efforts including, but not limited to, Eagle Valley Outdoor Movement and Eagle County Community Wildlife Roundtable 
  • Facilitates the Eagle Valley Outdoor Stewardship Coalition meetings and activities
  • Represents EVLT at community events with support from EVLT team
  • Manages policy efforts
  • Demonstrates inclusivity and equity in all activities and communications
  • Manages physical assets, spaces, and facilities related to community programs
  • Records and files community engagement reports

Communications (15%)

  • Manages the development and implementation of the Annual Communications Plan
  • Promotes EVLT programs and events through all media channels including social media
  • Develops promotional content through story maps, monthly columns in the Vail Daily, etc
  • Manages volunteer outreach and engagement
  • Maintains a ready supply of organized marketing materials for staff attendance at public events

 

Organizational Leadership/Management (10%)

  • Oversees training and management of interns, including Community Conservation Interns, as necessary 
  • Various other tasks as requested by ED

Fundraising (10%)

  • Supports fundraising efforts, including grant writing and administration
  • Manages community and town grant applications and reporting, including presenting to boards and councils as appropriate
  • Supports fundraising events
  • Assists with fundraising activities during major campaigns, including mass mailings
  • Manages donor portfolio as assigned by Philanthropy Staff
  • Work with Philanthropy Staff to align community outreach and fundraising efforts

Board and Committees (5%)

  • Manages the activities of the Community Engagement Committee 
  • Submits proposals, reports and documentation to the Board of Directors in a high-quality and timely manner

Administration (10%)

  • Assists with overall administrative needs
  • Takes notes at any meetings as requested
  • Various other tasks as requested by ED

  • Understanding of land trust’s role in conserving local land
  • Event experience
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish at a conversational level
  • Ability to write in Spanish preferred

 

Education, Training, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable discipline or 3 years work experience in a similar field
  • 2 years of experience in program coordination or management
  • An interest in land conservation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Proficiency in map reading 

 

Travel Requirements

This is a full time position, including weekend and evening work during programs, special events, and fundraising campaigns

Good driving record, a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

 

Physical Demands

A blend of office work and community engagement activities, this position will require periodic weekend, early morning and evening work. Work requires some physical exertion such as strenuous hiking, walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, or similar activities.

 

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $60,000. This position is eligible for the following employment benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with premiums paid 60% by the employer for the employee
  • A 401K plan with 3% employer match
  • 120 hours of paid time off, accrued annually, to be used for vacation, medical, and personal time away from work
