Hiring Range: $30/hr-$31.22/hr. The maximum pay for this position is 37.46/hr.

The Accounting Coordinator works in multiple areas of financial, business, and budget analysis under the direction of senior staff and management. Duties include fiscal and administrative duties such as accounts payable processing, budget preparation, revenue collection and assisting with a new short-term licensing program, all of which may include compilation of financial data from multiple sources, and subsequent analysis of that data to produce business information used to support decisions.

This position provides fiscal and administrative support to the Eagle County finance department and other departments within Eagle County Government. This position is the front-line customer service representative for callers and visitors to the Eagle County Government finance department.

This position ensures all details of a task are accomplished properly to produce accurate results, participates in continuous improvement efforts, considers the impact on the customer when making decisions, and uses judgment and tact. This position is privy to sensitive information and must be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Must be able to prioritize, organize, and coordinate assigned project workload and resources necessary to satisfy deadlines while maintaining consistent quality of final work product and outcomes.

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm. This position will help with CBOE and there will be limited time off during the month of July. The candidate may be required to work more than 40 hours per week during this process.

Essential Functions

  • Assists the finance team to achieve its goals by completing tasks with minimal guidance. Assignments will change based on workflow and needs of the department. Duties may include: completing bank reconciliations, reconciling cash accounts and petty cash, managing department software systems, providing training on finance procedures to staff members across the organization, compiling and reconciling purchasing card information, assisting with budgeting, long-term planning, grant reporting and implementing and maintaining a new short term rental licensing program. This position may cross -train with payroll and provide coverage when needed. (35%)
  • Processes account payable, including entering finance and other department’s invoices, printing checks, processing interdepartmental charges, which include FedEx and mailing charges, purchasing card coding, and managing employee logins and accounts for a variety of vendors. (20%)
  • Records and deposits revenues and reimbursement of expenditures for a variety of county departments. Ensures revenues are collected based on department budgets and transfers are completed. Reports on short-term rental license revenue and bag fee revenue. (15%)
  • Key player on the County Board of Equalization (CBOE) administration team from the last week of June to the first week of August. Very limited time off can be taken in July and more than 40 hours per week may be required during this timeframe. Duties for this task include: scheduling hearings, reviewing and organizing documents, responding to phone calls and emails daily and passing the information along to the team, data entry, and mail notice of hearings and decision letters. (10%)
  • Provide accurate, timely, exemplary customer service through interactions with the public, external agencies, and internal county departments. Respond to inquiries in person, via email and on the phone. (10%)
  • Performs administrative support for the finance team including processing of finance forms, filings, copying, scanning, mailing and sorting checks, ordering office supplies, uploading documents to the website, collecting and distributing department mail, etc. Orders copy paper and coffee for organization wide use. Maintains supply of coffee in the main employee break room. (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)
  • Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.


Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Minimum work experience is 3 years of financial, administrative and/or customer service experience or a combination of education, training and experience.
  • Preferred work experience and qualifications include:
    • Accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping and customer service experience
    • Experience with enterprise financial software
    • Payroll processing and analysis

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to use judgment and tact
  • Must be proficient working with computers and spreadsheets, experience with Google sheets preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, utilize critical thinking skills and anticipate next steps and take action
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to working on different priorities as they come up.
  • Ability to ensure all details of a task are completed accurately
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize, and coordinate assigned project workload and resources necessary to meet deadlines while maintaining consistent quality of final work product and outcomes
  • Spanish is helpful
