EXPLORING AFRO-CUBAN JAZZ
Spanning the 1700s to the modern era, the evolution of Afro-Cuban music has defined an isolated culture and influenced a global landscape. Professor Michael Davison, a celebrated educator and performer, will contextualize this musical tradition through an era-by-era analysis of Danzon, Son, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, and Salsa. Dr. Davison will be joined by internationally acclaimed Cuban ensemble ¡Cubanismo!, who will demonstrate the driving rhythms and diverse array of percussion instruments that bring each sub-genre to life. This event is co-produced by Vail Jazz and the Vail Symposium, and will be a special event consisting of one 75 minute set at 6:30pm.
