Topic: How to Find, Keep, and Manage Volunteers

As a nonprofit organization many of us are continually searching for volunteers and trying to find ways to keep them actively engaged. Learn how some local nonprofits have been successful in recruiting, increasing engagement and improving volunteer retention rates. They have learned to create a positive experience for the volunteer and the nonprofit. Our panel discussion will help you answer your questions about volunteer management.

Panelists Include:

Christine Albertson is the Community Relations and Marketing Manager, at Vail Health and Shaw Cancer Center (Pink Vail). Christine has been with Vail Health since 2012 when Pink Vail began. Prior to that she was the Marketing and Event Director for the National Ski Patrol. With her involvement, Pink Vail manages over 400 volunteer positions each year. This year it brought together over 2,400 participants.

Brooke Carlsen has been the Program Manager in Eagle County for SOS Outreach since October 2018. She is originally from Denver and spent a lot of her childhood exploring Vail through skiing, camping, hiking and visiting family.  She and her boyfriend moved to Eagle County in June 2016 and she is enjoying making deeper connections and building relationships in the beautiful Eagle Valley.

Jenika Doberstein is the Volunteer and Emergency Planning Manager for Roundup River Ranch where she develops and implements emergency plans including Incident Response and Camper Support Teams. She recruits, trains, and manages 1,200 volunteers per year. She is passionate and hardworking and strives to lead by example. Her passions and experience are in the outdoors, education, youth development, and emergency management fields.

Jen Mason is the Executive Director of the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame. For the prior 18 years, she was with the Vail Valley Foundation where she led efforts to coordinate the 2,000-plus volunteers for the 2015 Alpine Ski Championships. She has been on the Vail Town Council for the past four years. Jen moved to Vail after graduating from college, having been introduced to the community when her parents opened a coffee shop in the 1990’s.
