Buchholz FamilyYou can’t talk Eagle County history without mentioning the Buchholz family, which is why John Buchholz is the 2017 Nimon-Walker Award Recipient. John Buchholz PhotographJohn is the direct descendant of one of Eagle County’s most prominent pioneering families. His great-grandfather, Nicholas Buchholz, brought his family to the Eagle River Valley in 1882 – and as they say the rest is history. Several generations of Buchholz family played prominent roles in turning a mountain valley into a thriving community.

For his generosity in sharing his family’s rich history and deep roots in the Eagle Valley, John Buchholz will be presented the 2017 Nimon-Walker Award on Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 pm at the Eagle Public Library.

Please join the Eagle Valley Library District and the Eagle County Historical Society for an afternoon of honoring John Buchholz. This year’s event kicks off with F. Darrell Munsell, author of Colorado Artist Jack Roberts: Painting the West. Roberts’ iconic Western paintings are distinguishable anywhere with their bright colors and depictions of everyday Colorado happenings and places, from saloons to harvest dinners. Munsell will give a presentation following Roberts’ life, inspirations, and the changes in lifestyle and subject in a celebration on this respected artist of the American West.

Visit the Eagle Valley Library District’s Digital Archive to learn more about the Buchholz  family.

The Nimon-Walker Award has been recognizing individual and families who help preserve the history of Eagle County since 2001. The Nimon-Walker Award won 2016’s Governor’s Award for “Best Event in A Small Community” from Downtown Colorado Inc.
