Meet at the Minturn Forest Service Park and Ride.

This is your opportunity to visit the 235-acre site of the Eagle Mine and learn about its impacts on the Eagle River and downstream communities. Learn about the impacts of heavy metal contamination from past mining activities, as well as the Superfund site’s history and legacy. A visit to the nearby Waste Treatment Plant will wrap up the tour.

Important – we are offering two rounds of tours on August 17. Please be sure to purchase the ticket for the tour you’d like to attend.

  • Round 1: 8am – 12pm
  • Round 2: 12:30 -4:30pm

This is your opportunity to visit the 235-acre site of the Eagle Mine and learn about its impacts on the Eagle River and downstream communities. Participants will meet at the Forest Service Park and Ride – Meadow Mountain Parking Lot and will be shuttled to the location, approximately 8,000 feet above sea level, one mile south of Minturn. Learn about the impacts of heavy metal contamination from past mining activities, as well as the Superfund site’s history and legacy. A visit to the nearby Waste Treatment Plant will wrap up the tour, and participants will reconvene at the Forest Service Park and Ride – Meadow Mountain Parking Lot.

What should I bring?

  • Please bring snacks and a filled reusable water bottle
  • Please come equipped with sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.)
  • We ask that you wear close-toed shoes that you’re comfortable walking in and loose or active clothing

What else should I know? 

  • Feel free to visit the EPA’s info page about the Eagle Mine to learn more about the site if you like.
  • You will be required to sign an online waiver that will be provided to you via email prior to the event.
