Eagle County, CO –May 5th, 2018 –Eagle River Watershed Council is proud to announce its 18th Annual Community Pride Highway Cleanup presented by Vail Resorts EpicPromise. This community event is not only fun, it also serves an important role in the health of our beautiful valley.

Each year, over 10 tons of trash collects along road sides here in Eagle County. If this trash is not removed, it will eventually make its way into our rivers and streams contaminating the lifeblood of our community. It is through the dedication of our passionate volunteers that we keep our roadways, and thus our entire valley healthy for all to enjoy!

This year, the 18th Annual Community Pride Highway Cleanup will take place on Saturday, May 5th from 9 am to noon.  More than 950 volunteers will join in on this annual rite of spring to pick up trash from nearly 140 miles of Eagle County roadways (I-70, Highways 6, 24, & 131). Local businesses, organizations, families and friends form teams, each responsible for cleaning a one- or two-mile stretch of road.

After the morning of fun and hard work, volunteers and their families are invited to a free Thank You BBQ at the Broken Arrow Restaurant in Arrowhead from noon to 2 pm. The party will feature live music from First Chair, beer from Crazy Mountain Brewing Company, and delicious food prepared by the Arrowhead Alpine Club and Beaver Creek Mountain Dining. In addition to the great food, beer and entertainment, our volunteers are thanked with free gifts and the chance to win raffle prizes.

The Thank You BBQ is a great way to come together as a community and celebrate our accomplishments with friends and family! The highlight of the party is the Golden Toilet Seat Award given to the team that collects the most unusual piece of trash.

Last year, our wonderful volunteers removed over 10 tons of trash from our roadways! For this year’s 18th annual cleanup, our goal is to pick up all the trash and hope that it is less than ever before!

Eagle River Watershed Council has a mission to advocate forthe health and conservation of the Upper Colorado and Eagle River basins through research, education, and projects. The Watershed Council strives to protect and enhance the high-quality natural, scenic and economic values that our rivers and tributaries provide to the citizens, visitors and wildlife of the Eagle River and Colorado River watersheds located in Eagle County.
