Crazy Mountain Brewing Company Releases Shane McConkey IPA in 12-ounce Bottles
Crazy Mountain Brewing Company announces the release of the “Shane McConkey India Pale Ale”, a classic West Coast IPA named for the free-skiing pioneer, Shane McConkey. This IPA will be added to the brewery’s winter seasonal line-up with availability from November through April in 12-ounce bottles.
This special winter IPA is brewed with Chinook and Centennial hops to create a hop-forward flavor profile that accomplishes a blend of both piney and citrusy notes. Shane McConkey IPA is big—like McConkey’s personality—and bitter—like Vail Resorts was in 1993, after they banned him from the mountain for life after preforming the stunt found on the Crazy Mountain label. McConkey, along with this IPA, will be remembered for bringing energy, a zest for life and above all else the simple reminder to never take yourself too seriously.
In celebration of the release of the Shane McConkey IPA, Crazy Mountain is hosting a party at the Vail Ale House on December 11th, 2015, from 5pm – 8pm. In addition to the beer release, they will be screening Matchstick Productions’ new 4K-Definition ski film Fade to Winter and holding a raffle after the presentation of the film. Tickets are available for purchase in Crazy Mountain Brewery’s Edwards Tasting Room for $25. Ticket price includes the premier, a free pint of the Shane McConkey IPA, a limited edition “Ski Like Shane” t-shirt and a raffle ticket. All proceeds generated from the event will be donated to the Shane McConkey Foundation.
Crazy Mountain’s Brewmaster, Kevin Selvy, had initially conceived the idea of brewing a beer in memory of Shane several years ago. Selvy was elated when he received word that Sherry McConkey, Shane’s wife and head of the Shane McConkey Foundation was receptive to the idea of dedicating a beer to her husband. The iconic picture taken on “Look Ma” ski run in 1993 has always been a great example of Shane’s incredible personality and the company culture surrounding Crazy Mountain Brewery. “McConkey was an inspiration to not only myself, but also so many of the employees who were apart of making this beer possible. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have the opportunity to support the Shane McConkey Foundation and honor the man himself through this seasonal brew” states Selvy.
Shane McConkey IPA will be distributed locally in the Vail Valley along with various mountain towns and ski communities, including but not limited to Burke, VT, Squaw Valley, CA and select resorts where McConkey’s influence is still seen today.
