Even if Colorado’s weather is often unpredictable, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and partner organizations offer motorists several reliable tools so they can plan and time their drive to align with the best conditions and the least traffic. CDOT recommends that drivers plan ahead, using the medium that’s most convenient for them — on the phone, on the web or on the go. Each of these resources can be used to find out important travel info, such as an active passenger vehicle Traction Law, traffic incidents and more.

On the phone.

Motorists have the option to call 511 anywhere, anytime in the state for regularly updated road conditions.

On the web.

On COtrip.org, CDOT provides information on road conditions and live feeds from traffic cameras, as well as real-time alerts, like an active Traction Law. COtrip.org is a terrific resource for planning your trip regionally or across the state at any time of year, winter or otherwise.

GoI70.com provides a weekly I-70 travel forecast based on historical travel data, combined with estimations of how weather, construction, and local mountain events will impact travel times. The overall goal? Help drivers stay informed and avoid the I-70 peak travel rush. And just in case avoiding traffic isn’t enough, GoI70.com offers Peak Time Deals — discounts at ski resorts and mountain towns reserved for those who leave early or stay late.

On the go.

Launched last season, CDOT is continuing its Mountain Travel Radio live stream broadcasts via COtrip.org to give motorists the most up-to-date travel information while they drive. It airs every Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday mornings/afternoons, and on Monday holidays. Listeners can expect live traffic updates right from CDOT’s Traffic Operations Center. When Mountain Travel Radio is live, there’s truly no better I-70 travel resource available. Mountain Travel Radio begins Thanksgiving weekend and continues each weekend throughout ski season.
