It's time to get back on the ice!

It’s time to get back on the ice!

The Vail Recreation District has a whole new lineup of programs waiting for you at Dobson Arena this upcoming season. We have a little bit of everything for everyone.

We have our traditional Wednesday afternoon Learn to Skate program where kids 4-14 years old will learn the basic skills of skating following the USFSA Basic Skills curriculum. This program is the foundation of learning to skate whether you want to be a figure skater or a hockey player. LTS Registration Form

All skaters who preregister by September 25th will receive a punch card (10 punches) for use at Public Skating.

Our Jr. Prep & Advanced Edges and Turns class returns on Monday afternoons. This program gives skaters who have passed Basic 5 a chance to progress their figure skating skills. Jr. Prep Registration Form

NEW this year!

Theater on Ice will be offered Wednesday evenings following our Learn to Skate program for skaters 4-18 years old. In its first year at Dobson Arena, we plan to evolve this program from a class into a competitive team. Arena Manager Jared Biniecki says, “We hope to give figure skating that team aspect it has always needed.” Theater on Ice is an official U.S. Figure Skating program and has taken off across the country. Theater on Ice Registration Form

We also have a Power Skating program being added to Friday afternoons. This class is open to all skaters 4-14 years old, both hockey and figure skaters, who want to improve their skating.

This class is an on-ice workout that incorporates skill and technique to improve a skater’s speed and quickness. This class focuses on muscle endurance and cardio as well, so be prepared to sweat! Power Skating Registration Form

One of the most exciting new programs is our Bridge Program for our skaters looking to make the jump from Basic Skills to a figure skater. On Monday afternoons skaters will start with an off ice component and then finish with an on ice class beyond the scope of their Basic Skills class. This class is open to any skater who is currently enrolled in our Basic Skills program. Bridge Program Registration Form

Saturdays!

We have added Learn to Skate to Saturday mornings through the fall only. As part of our Saturday morning we will include a special Learn to Skate class for hockey players. The hockey class is for our future hockey players (4-7 years old) who want to get a head start for their Mini Mite and Mite hockey season.

Please note that any registered skater in our Basic Skills class will be allowed to participate in the first 2 weeks of our Theater On Ice course free of charge! Interested skaters must still fill out a registration form for TOI.

Online Registration is available at www.vailrec.com.
