A-to-Z Guide to the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships
A is for Après Avon: Après Avon is a street fair and concert series held from 2:00 to 5:30pm at the Main Street Mall in Avon, featuring 2015 mascots, cheerleaders, ski racing athlete signings, and free music. For the full musical line-up, visit vailbeavercreek.com/events
B is for Beaver Creek: home to most of the races, Beaver Creek is also hosting breakfast in the Village and will be open for business with 95% of the mountain still open during the races.
C is for Championships Plaza: Solaris Plaza will be renamed “Championships Plaza” and will play host to the World Championships Opening Ceremony (February 2), along with the nightly Official Medal Presentations. In addition to the champions receiving their awards, each evening will also include a free concert, featuring a different headliner act, and spectacular light shows and fireworks displays. Championships Plaza will also feature numerous large screens that will carry all of the racing action during the day for those that can’t make it to Beaver Creek.
D is for Don’t Miss Out: the Alpine World Ski Championships don’t happen every day; make sure to join in the fun and don’t miss out on the events and festivities. Encourage your employees to attend events to help fill the stands., or join the VVP as we watch the races on February 4th at 11am.
E is for Engage: Show the world why we live in the most epic place in the world: show off your own experiences (images, video, write-ups) by posting content through your social media channels with the #Vail2015 handle.
F is for Free: free races, free concerts, free events, free transportation and free admission to the races with additional free programs and activities throughout Beaver Creek, Vail and Avon.
G is for Giveaways: in addition to the flair you’ll already be bringing (flags, banners, team colors, etc), event organizers will be handing out giveaways such as temporary tattoos, flags, foam fingers and more. Gates Open at 8am and the early bird will be rewarded. Each day a limited number of unique collector’s pin will be rewarded at the official merchandise booth to the first few hundred people arriving at Red Tail Stadium. There will be more opportunities for pins, including for those who take the hike/snowshoe up Trail 2015 (Dally) to Red Tail.
H is for Hometown Heroes: come cheer on Mikaela Shiffrin and Lindsey Vonn as they aim to win gold medals in their backyard.
I is for International: international television exposure for our community and international visitors to our valley.
J is for J. Lindeberg: clothing sponsor J. Lindeberg provides the official volunteer uniforms for the 2015 Championships.
K is for Kids: local kids from throughout the Vail Valley will have an opportunity to attend races throughout the Championships.
L is for lodging: lodging remains available, with last minute deals accessible throughout the valley at VailonSale.com
M is for Mobile App: Resort App, to be exact, providing complete event logistics and details ranging from transportation to start times to everything you might need to know. You can also receive push notifications for all up-to-date info: parking, events, promotions and more.
N is for Nations Team Event: the only team race of the 11 medal events.
O is for Opening Ceremonies: The Opening Ceremony of the 2015 World Championships will be our community’s first opportunity to shine as the world looks on. The show will be divided into three segments – Dream It, Live It and Share It – celebrating the values that make ski racing so special, along with those at the top of the sport. While the majority of the ceremony will be kept a surprise, fans can expect an hour of live entertainment filled with heart-warming notes and a touch of the unexpected. Come early – attendance is free to the public but it is expected that the venue will reach maximum capacity.
P is for Pete & Earl: Pete the Mountain Lion and Earl the Raccoon serve as official mascots of the event, with appearances throughout the two weeks.
Q is for Quick & Easy Access: races are accessed quickly and easily through a variety of transit options. Visit www.VailBeaverCreek2015.com/getting-around to learn more about the transportation options in the valley during this time.
R is for Races: two weeks filled with the best skiers in the world, in our backyard
S is for Shop: visit Zone2015.com to stock up on all the products you’ll need to cheer on Team USA and look good at the same time.
T is for Transit: Let’s not forget the free intra-resort transportation as well, covering most of the upper valley. In addition to the free bus system and to help relieve parking, the Turtle Bus will be making stops around the EagleVail and Edwards neighborhoods on select days (2/3, 2/4 and 2/9) for drop-off and pick-up. And, of course, there will be free beer (Sierra Nevada). Simply put, “There’s No Fuss When You Take The Bus”.
U is for USA: come cheer on Team USA as they attempt to medal in each of the races
V is for Volunteers: over 2,500 volunteers will help make the event a rousing success
W is for World Championships: The 2015 Championships will mark the fourth time that the U.S. has hosted the Alpine World Championships, all of them in Colorado
X is for Xenial: it’s important for us to be xenial (to be hospitable especially to visiting strangers or foreigners) during the Championships.
Y is for Youth Events: Family Fun Zones will be set up in Lionshead Village from February 6-8 and February 13-15 from 1pm-4pm.
Z is for Zealous: it is important for our community to be enthusiastic and zealous supporters of the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships as we welcome the world to our community from February 2-15, 2015.
