Beginning in late 2014 or early 2015, a new bus service along the I-70 corridor will provide transportation between Glenwood Springs and Denver. The Interregional Express (IX) Bus Service is designed to connect population and employment centers as well as local transit providers along Interstate 70. The service will include one round trip per weekday between Glenwood Springs and Denver Union Station with stops in Eagle, Vail, Frisco and the Denver Federal Center. Service will be expanded as the demand increases.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), “The IX proposal helps further CDOT’s multi-modal mission” and also works towards transit-related recommendations in the I-70 Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement. Buses will be owned by CDOT, and leased to a contract operator. The creation of the CDOT Division of Transit & Rail in 2009 gave CDOT the authority to operate transit service. The FASTER Transit program provides the sustainable funding stream to allow the service to continue year after year.
