Can Do Multiple Sclerosis, a national non-profit providing lifestyle empowerment programs for people with multiple sclerosis, and their support partners, is pleased to announce that Cathy Ethington has joined Can Do MS’s leadership team as the new Director of Development. Sue Byrne has also joined the team as the new Grant Writer.
Ethington is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising, including individual and major gifts, corporations, foundations, special events and planned giving. She will manage the cultivation of new and existing donors. Ethington comes to Can Do MS with years of non-profit development experience working for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin, a non-profit that grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Most recently, she was Advertising Director of the Vail Daily and has lived in the Vail Valley since 2011.
Byrne is responsible for researching, sourcing, preparing and submitting all grant proposals and grant applications in support of Can Do MS’s mission to maintain and expand its funding sources. She has over 15 years’ experience as a funding and development professional predominantly in the UK non-profit sector. Her most recent position was as an economic development consultant focusing mainly on work which helped disadvantaged individuals, families and communities enhance the quality of their lives. Prior to that Byrne was a development executive for the Wise Group, a non-profit which helps people into work, regenerates communities and builds a greener society.
Of the new hires, Can Do MS President and CEO Heidi A. Heltzel says, “We’re excited to add both Cathy and Sue to our team. Their collective experience in the non-profit world combined with a true passion for our cause, will help elevate this organization to the next level. With their expertise, Can Do MS will be able to increase its programming to enhance the lives of more people living with MS and their support partners.”
