The BecTri was created in memory of Rebecca Lynn Yarberry, an aspiring doctor killed in a car accident in 2006 on her way home from work at the Vail Valley Medical Center. Always pouring her heart into all of her endeavors – from helping children with medical needs in Honduras to training for triathlons herself – every stroke, step and wheel turn generated in the BecTri as well as every dollar of the proceeds going to CURE International and the Vail Valley Charitable Fund embodies Rebecca’s strong, dedicated spirit.
The BecTri is a perfect opportunity for aspiring triathletes to get their feet wet. Not only is it an ideal springboard for those new to the sport and interested in easing into it from a comfortable environment, but all proceeds of the event go to the Vail Valley Charitable Fund and CURE International. The only casual sprint-length triathlon in the area to include an open-water swim, the fifth annual BecTri kicks off at 8 a.m. in Avon’s Nottingham Park.
The BecTri kicks off at Avon’s Nottingham Park on Saturday, Aug. 4. Parking is available at the Bear Lot at the base of Beaver Creek. Athletes should be at the venue at 7 a.m. Special early online registration until Aug. 1 is $65 for individual, $90 for 2-person teams and $110 for 3-person team at active.com.
