  • New Commander Joins Vail Police Department

The Vail Police Department will be swearing in its newest commander during a 4 p.m. ceremony Friday, July 27 in the municipal building. Cmdr. Daric Harvey will oversee the department’s Operations Division, replacing Steve Wright who retired in February.

Harvey was formerly with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department in Central Florida and comes with 16 years of diverse law enforcement experience. During his career, he has served as a patrol lieutenant, liaison to the County Division of Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center, homicide detective, SWAT team member, accreditation manager, law enforcement instructor, has coordinated research and development projects, and the last two years has served as a watch commander in patrol. In Osceola County, Harvey had the opportunity to work with a diverse community including those involved in the guest service industry due to the proximity of Disney World in nearby Orange County. As such, Harvey is considered to be well suited for Vail’s resort environment.

Harvey has a BA from Columbia College of Missouri in criminal justice administration and has attended the 59th Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course.

He was drawn to this area for the world class skiing, small town atmosphere and friendly people. He brings with him his wife Alicia of fourteen years and three children.

For more information, contact Chief Dwight Henninger at 479-2218 or Harvey at 477-3433.
