  • Eagle County and Colorado Mountain College break ground on workforce housing project

November 2, 2022 – Eagle County and Colorado Mountain College (CMC) will celebrate the commencement of construction on the workforce housing project at the CMC Edwards campus with a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, November 7.

Details:
Date: Monday, November 7
Time: 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
Location: 150 Miller Ranch Rd, Edwards, CO

“This project is exciting and innovative on many levels,” said Eagle County Commissioner Jeanne McQueeney. “It represents the best of what workforce housing can be–residents will have convenient access to public transportation, child care, recreation, area schools, entertainment, retail, and restaurants.”

Eagle County is doubling CMC’s plans to build affordable housing at its campus in Edwards. Together, contributions from Eagle County and CMC will result in the construction of 72 units of new housing (96 beds total) for locals in Edwards. This project is centrally located in Eagle County and situated between Freedom Park and the CMC Edwards campus.

Eagle County Housing and Development Authority will finance the construction of a second apartment building identical to the one already approved for funding by the CMC Board of Trustees. ECHDA’s contribution adds an additional 36 units (48 beds) to CMC’s project in Edwards, for a total of 72 two-bedroom and studio units (96 beds.) In addition to the close proximity of public transportation, residents will also have access to EV charging stations.

“We are thrilled that we are able to partner with Eagle County on this exciting housing project,” said Peg Portscheller, Chair of the CMC Board of Trustees. “We are excited to be working on similar projects in Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs and Steamboat Springs.”

Chris Romer, the CMC Trustee representing Eagle County added, “This project is a win/win for our local workforce and for our students, who are often one and the same.”

This development will provide housing for CMC staff and faculty in the CMC Building and for public employees, CMC staff or students, and the local workforce in the ECHDA Building. All units will be rented at rates at or below 100% AMI.

Construction has begun. Completion of the first building is estimated to be late fall 2023. The second building will be completed shortly thereafter.

The groundbreaking will include remarks from the Eagle County Board of Commissioners and project partners. Light refreshments will be served.
