Ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commemorated annually during the month of October, Valley View is pleased to welcome mammography technologist, Jenny Gonzales, R.T. (R) (ARRT) to Valley View Imaging.

Born and raised on the island of Puerto Rico, Jenny is a native Spanish speaker and moved to the US when she was 20 years old. She joins Valley View’s imaging department with over 20 years of experience as an x-ray technologist and now performs mammograms for the people of the Roaring Fork, Colorado River and Eagle River Valley.

When asked about making the switch to mammography, Jenny says, “I found my calling. Caring for women, making them feel comfortable and gaining their trust, that is what it’s all about. My bubbly personality puts my patients at ease. I’ve made friends for life.”

Jenny is passionate about screening mammograms to detect cancer early. Jenny advocates for her community to get checked. “It’s all about self-care, if we don’t take care of ourselves, we can’t take care of anyone else,” she says.

Outside of work, Jenny loves hiking, snowboarding and music (Mumford and Sons and Tool are favorites), and lives in Silt with her puppy, a cattle dog named Captain Henry Sparrow that she adopted from Rifle Animal Shelter.

Mammogram screenings are often covered at 100 percent by most commercial and government plans.  Check with your insurance carrier to determine your coverage. If you do not have insurance coverage and want to determine financial responsibility, you can call Valley View’s Patient Financial Services at 970.384.6890 or email vvhcs@vvh.org.

For questions about when to start scheduling mammograms, how often to get them and more, talk to a primary care provider.
