  • Valley View’s Emergency Room Once Again Receives Level III Trauma Center Designation by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment

Valley View, an independent, nonprofit health system based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, has again been designated a Level III Trauma Center from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

“It is an absolute honor to receive this designation,” said Brian Murphy, MD, CEO of Valley View. “This would not be possible without the dedication of our expert and compassionate emergency medicine providers, nurses, techs, and more, and the high level of trauma services that they provide. This designation ensures that our community has access to safe and high-quality trauma care close to home.”

As a Level III Trauma Center, Valley View provides 24-hour coverage by emergency medicine physicians, general surgeons and anesthesiologists. Emergency care is available for all ages including infants, children and adults.

As part of this designation, Valley View promptly provides assessment, resuscitation, surgery, intensive care, and stabilization of injured patients and emergency operations. In addition, Valley View has special partnerships with other Colorado hospitals to transfer patients requiring more comprehensive care via its Classic Air helicopter.

All Valley View emergency physicians are board certified and bring an array of specialty skills. They are supported by a hospital offering advanced equipment for diagnosis and treatment, an extensive network of specialists that can be contacted at a moment’s notice, and a dedicated support staff trained to calmly work in high-pressure situations.

“Many of our encounters in the emergency room involve effects of high altitude and sports-related injuries, as well as underlying medical conditions that surface without warning,” said Valley View Trauma Program Manager Jen Elias, RN. “As a verified Level III Trauma Center, we are equipped to promptly handle these situations with the utmost care.”

Valley View’s emergency room is located at its Glenwood Springs hospital. For more information about Valley View’s emergency care, visit www.vvh.org/our-services/emergency/ or call 970-384-7300.
