  • Town of Eagle Allocates $95,000 for Small Business Relief, Launches “Eagle Bucks” Program

Local residents receive $40 to spend at participating businesses in Eagle.

EAGLE, Colorado – January 14, 2021 — The Town Council of the Town of Eagle has allocated $95,000 in funding for the Town’s “Eagle Bucks” program. Modeled on similar programs in Basalt, Vail, Boulder, and other communities in Colorado, local P.O. Box holders will be given two $20 vouchers to spend at participating local businesses. Vouchers will be mailed by mid-February and are valid through April 15, 2021. At the January 12, 2021 Council meeting the Town Council approved the resolution creating the program.

“The Town of Eagle supports our local businesses and thinks investing $95,000 in sales tax contributions in our local economy through Eagle Bucks will help those in need. I am very optimistic about the vaccinations and seeing the end to the pandemic but feel it is very important to help support our local businesses that have been the most impacted by the pandemic.” Scott Turnipseed, Mayor

Council members approved the distribution of vouchers through P.O. Box holders as a more equitable process than mailing one to each household, given that some multi-family units and other living arrangements in the community have centralized addresses. Eagle Bucks are only valid at participating businesses. Participation in the program is not mandatory.

Participating businesses must be located within the Town of Eagle, have a Town of Eagle Business License, a valid Sales Tax License, and must not conduct the majority of their retail business with one of the disqualifying products. Applications to participate are being accepted now through the Town’s website, and applications received before January 25, 2021 will be listed in the mailing containing the vouchers.

Eagle Bucks cannot be used for the purchase of tobacco products, marijuana, alcohol, grocery items, pharmaceuticals, lottery tickets, gift cards, or contribute to sales tax collected. Participating retailers must be registered before accepting the vouchers. A full list of the participating businesses as well as the complete terms and conditions of use are available on the Town’s website.

Eagle Bucks is the third program providing local support as response to COVID-19 by the Town of Eagle since March 2020. “Be Our Guest” is still in effect, allowing businesses to apply for use of Town right-of-way to expand business operations to offset the impacts of COVID-19 on enclosed spaces. In August 2020, the Town Council approved $45,000 to be distributed to local non-profit organizations assisting residents with the impacts of COVID-19, funding 20 organizations including the Vail Valley Foundation, United Way of Eagle County, Speak Up Reach Out, Neighborhood Navigators, and Bright Future Foundation.

The Town of Eagle is committed to the residents of Eagle, the business community, and to assisting the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information on Town efforts, please go to www.townofeagle.org.
