“’Abbey Road’ was released in October 1969, as a generation said goodbye to 10 years of heavy change. This album led us all across a new road and into another decade,” said Craig Martin, the founder of Classic Albums Live.

Martin thought he knew the album — right up until the band began rehearsing it.

“It’s tough, I mean really tough,” he said. “The sound, the tone, the arrangements … There’s no way to phone this album in. You have to love this album to perform this album properly. We do.”

Abbey Road entered the British album chart at No. 1 in October 1969 and stayed there for a total of 17 of its 81 weeks in the chart. In the U.S., it spent 11 weeks at No. 1 during its initial chart stay of 83 weeks, according to thebeatles.com.

Hear some of the best Beatles songs ever recorded, like “Come Together,” “Something,” “Here Comes the Sun” and “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” at the Vilar Performing Arts Center on March 26 when Classic Albums Live recreates one of the most popular albums in history.
