  • Colorado Classic Cycling Race is Coming to Beaver Creek!

Avon will be the host community for Stage 2 of the Colorado Classic Cycling Race on Friday August 23, 2019. Some of the best female cycling professionals in the world will start the stage in Avon, ride 7 laps and 35 miles through Avon and Eagle Vail, and then take on a 15 mile lap up one of Colorado’s most notorious climbs through the Strawberry Park neighborhood in Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch before finishing back in Avon.

The race is scheduled to start at 1:00pm in Avon. There will be numerous road closures throughout Avon and Eagle Vail during the race, including US 6 from Prater Road east to Post Boulevard in Eagle Vail. The intersection at Prater Road and Highway 6 will be partially open throughout the race, to allow access via Hwy 6 west towards Edwards.

When the cyclists enter Beaver Creek for the ascent, all roads in Beaver Creek below the Village will be closed until the racers complete the descent into Bachelor Gulch and reenter Avon.

We anticipate that all roads in Beaver Creek/Strawberry Park will be closed for approximately a 45-minute time period sometime between 2:10 pm and 3:20 pm. This will be a “hard closure” which means that all of Village Road, North and South Holden Roads, Borders Road and streets in Strawberry Park will be closed to all traffic.

This closure will shift to Bachelor Gulch for the descent and will include Daybreak Ridge, Bachelor Gulch Trail and Prater Lane. These roads will open after the race has passed and leaves Beaver Creek via the Welcome Gate on the descent, though roads in the town of Avon will be closed until the finish of the stage, which will be soon thereafter. The race organizers anticipate the race will end at approximately 4 p.m.

Race organizers are working with the CO State Patrol, Town of Avon (employees and volunteers) and Beaver Creek Public Safety to have marshals on the course and to assist with traffic control.

The town of Avon has advised that the following roads will be closed, with limited crossing opportunities, beginning at 12:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23rd.

o Lake Street

o West Beaver Creek Boulevard

o Highway 6

o Post Boulevard

o East Beaver Creek Boulevard

o Avon Road

o West Benchmark Road

As noted above, closures in Beaver Creek and Bachelor Gulch will take place between 2:00 p.m and 3:20 p.m. and should last approximately 30 minutes to 45 minutes in each community.

o Village Road

o Holden Road

o Strawberry Park

o Daybreak Ridge

o Bachelor Gulch Trail

o Prater Lane
