Mountain Living magazine announces Slifer Designs founder is a 2019 Legacy Award Winner

To celebrate its  25th anniversary, Mountain Living magazine has announced the “Legacy Award”  honoring an exclusive group of design professionals who have had a significant impact on residential design in the Rocky Mountain region through 15-plus years of proven innovation and excellence.

The prestigious list includes 15 career professionals from the biggest resort towns in the West and Southwest, in the fields of architecture, interior design, and other residential design industries. One of the recipients—and the only award winner from Vail—is Beth Slifer, recognized for longevity and and expertise in the interior design field.

Beth founded Slifer Designs 35 years ago, establishing what would become one of the largest and most influential interior design firms in the West. Under her direction, Slifer Designs has become synonymous with resort design from coast to coast, and has helped forge the now well-known mountain aesthetic.

She is in good company along with the other recipients of the Legacy Award. The winners were handpicked by a panel of judges, based on the significance of their contributions to residential design through their work, community involvement, and role in mentoring the next generation of professionals.

Many of the Legacy Award recipients started out as entrepreneurs and pioneers in their respective fields, and through their design work contributed to the heritage of towns that are now renowned for design: Aspen, Jackson Hole, Bozeman, Sun Valley, and Vail, to name a few.

For Beth, the award represents the trust she has built with her clientele, not just to design their living spaces but to help them identify how they want to live. “This is a business, and people entrust us with their hopes, dreams and their money. It is our job to create a home that exceeds their expectations.”

Thanks to her dedication and pursuit of innovative design, Slifer Designs has won numerous awards over the years. Beth has also been recognized for her contributions to the Vail community—she was inducted into the Colorado Business Hall of Fame and serves as an integral member of several local nonprofit and government organizations, including the Vail Valley Partnership, Vail Local Marketing Board and Roundup River Ranch.

Beth’s commitment to community carries through to the work culture at Slifer Designs, where she has instilled a tradition of charitable giving and volunteerism. In fact, out of all of the numerous multi-million dollar projects she has overseen nationally and internationally, Beth is proudest of her work with a variety of local nonprofits. The company routinely stores client’s past furnishings to donate to Bright Future Foundation and Habitat for Humanity, helping families who are impacted by domestic abuse or unable to afford creating a safe and inviting home.

“Being able to make a space for a family, when maybe they have not had a safe place go, is one of my greatest achievements. ‘Transitional housing’ should be as well designed as any other space. I love when we can give back to this community, and really make a difference in even just one person’s life,” Slifer said.

It is this client and community centric view that drives her passion for design. As she states simply, “I enjoy helping my clients identify how they want to live.”
