  • Vail Mountaineers Hockey Club and Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association Announce Inaugural Pucks, Pars and Poker Event

July 12, 2018 (Vail, Colo.) – Directors of the Vail Mountaineer Hockey Club (VMHC) are pleased to announce the first Pucks, Pars and Poker Event. Scheduled for September 14-16, 2018, each of four exciting events will include well-known members of the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association. The newly named weekend of festivities will provide attendees with a variety of hockey, golf and charitable gaming options along with the opportunity to rub elbows with Colorado’s most beloved hockey players.

Kicking off the event is the Top Shelf Casino Night, to be held at Vail’s Dobson Ice Arena on Friday, September 14th. New additions for 2018 include Avalanche Alumni-run hockey clinics for children between the ages of 8 and 17 years old, a friendly game between the alumni (and their special celebrity guest, Ryan Sutter from TV’s Bachelorette fame) and Vail’s very own Vail Yeti Hockey Team on Saturday night. A celebrity golf tournament caps the weekend for the club’s premier fundraising event on Sunday, September 16. Proceeds from this event and the club’s annual Sportsmanship Tournament (November 2-18, 2018) directly offset program fees for nearly 200 local families while providing critical funding for the club’s scholarship and outreach programs.

“We’re thrilled to build on the success of last year’s Top Shelf Casino night, especially with the addition of our new partners at the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association,” offers Mountaineers club president Jeff Place, “We plan to highlight the sport of hockey and generate enthusiasm throughout the community by hosting an amazing weekend of fun events.”

“As a newly elected member of the Vail Mountaineers Board of Directors and recently arrived resident of the Vail Valley, I’m excited to be a part of the Pucks, Pars, and Poker event,” states John-Michael Liles, a longtime Avalanche standout and prominent member of the Colorado Avalanche Alumni Association. “It provides me with the opportunity to support both my family’s new community and Colorado Avalanche Hockey, two things for which I have great passion. I’m also really looking forward to being back on the ice again with some great teammates from my time playing in Denver.”
