  • 10th Annual LG Triathlon on July 7th Promises Fun for Friends and Family Alike

If you can swim, bike or run, you can TRI! This year bring your kids and encourage them to TRI too. The 10th Annual LG Tri Sprint Triathlon will be held at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink on Saturday, July 7th starting at 7:00AM. The 6th Annual LG Kid’s Tri will take place at the same location at 10:00AM. For more information or to register online, go to www.lgtri.com.

Have you ever thought about participating in a triathlon and decided you couldn’t swim, bike or run well enough? Create a team with co-workers or friends and join the fun of the LG Tri! This event is open to all ages and abilities.

The triathlon is held at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink and includes: a 500-meter swim (10 laps in the Eagle Pool), a 12-mile bike loop along Brush Creek Road and a 5K run in Eagle Ranch. Participants can sign up as individuals or members of a team. An award ceremony with prizes from many local companies and silent auction (including items such as a Vail Resorts hotel stays, dining gift certificates, Rockies tickets and much more!) will follow the race. Everyone who participates should go home with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, and of course an event goodie bag! Costume contest this year for best dressed.

The LG Kid’s Tri will start at 10:00AM and include three age groups: 6-7, 8-10, and 11-13. The 6-7-age route will be a 25-yd swim (1/2 lap in the pool), 1-mile bike ride and a 0.5-mile run. The 8-10 age route will be a 50-yd swim (1 lap in the pool), 3.2-mile bike ride and a 0.75-mile run. The 11-13 age route will be a 100-yd swim (2 laps in the pool), 5-mile bike ride and 1-mile run. Kids can race as tri teams as well; there are 2-person and 3-person team options for kids 6-13 years old.

Registration is open online until Tuesday, July 3rd at midnight. We will take last minute registrations during Friday night packet pick up at the Eagle Pool & Ice Rink on July 6th from 5-7pm.

Want to support the LG, but triathlons not really your thing? Grab your friends and family for a community event the night before on Friday, July 6th at the Eagle Pool & Ice Rink from 5-7pm, featuring delicious food from the Dusty Boot, savory suds from Bonfire Brewing, melodic tunes courtesy of John Martin, and a silent auction preview. Suggested $10 donation at the door.

This event is held in memory of a long-time local and Vail Valley Charitable Fund beneficiary, Laura Genelin, who lost her battle to cancer in July 2008. Proceeds from the LG Tri will benefit the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, a local non-profit helping locals facing medical crisis since 1996.
