  • Sneak Preview of World’s First Underground Drop Ride

Monday, July 31, 8 a.m. (Grand Opening date to be announced soon)

The Haunted Mine Drop is the first drop ride in the world to go underground, dropping riders 110 feet down inside the mountain. It’s located at the mountain-top Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, at an elevation of 7,000 feet, overlooking Glenwood Springs and the Roaring Fork Valley.

Anticipation has been building for months for thrill seekers and fans of dark rides and the paranormal. Earlier this year, the Haunted Mine Drop was named one of the 12 Most Anticipated Theme Park Rides of 2017 byUSA Today.

The ride was constructed by Stan Checketts’ Soaring Eagle in Logan, Utah. He also built the park’s Giant Canyon Swing and the Stratosphere Tower Big Shot in Las Vegas and has thrill rides located across the globe.

Mark McDonough’s St. Louis-based Creative Visions did the theming for the attraction. The company has developed characters for clients including Universal Studios Theme Parks, SeaWorld, Knott’s Berry Farm, MGM Grand Adventure, Six Flags and David Copperfield.

Location:

51000 Two Rivers Parkway, Glenwood Springs – Due to bridge construction, the easiest route will be to take exit 114 off I-70, then head east on U.S. 6 until you spot the tram lines coming down the mountain. Turn on Devereux and the base is just ahead on your right.

Details:

Meet at the park’s tram base by 8 a.m. for a gondola ride up to the park. Once everyone arrives at the top, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, champagne toast and test rides.

Park owner Steve Beckley, Stan Checketts and Mark McDonough will be available for interviews.

RSVP:

Please let me know if you will attend the event that morning so that the employees at the tram base will know to expect you. If you cannot make it, I will have a press release, photos and b-roll available when the ride opens.
