The following letter was sent to the Vail Town Council on Wednesday, February 8:
Dear Vail Town Council members:
Vail Valley Partnership (VVP) is the regional chamber of commerce representing Eagle County, Colorado. Our organization has over 850 member organizations, representing over 80% of the local workforce within the valley.
We want to thank you for your positive vote on first reading in January for the Marriott Residence Inn/Workforce Housing Project. Our support of the project is well documented for reasons we don’t need to repeat, but we do want to take the opportunity to thank you for the vote on first reading and to encourage a yes vote on second reading as well.
Your leadership on the issue of housing is to be commended and can serve as an example to other municipalities and the county (ranging from the Housing Authority efforts to Chamonix to the Residence Inn project). This project specifically is a potential case-study for how an effective public-private partnership can work and we look forward to the next steps after a yes vote on second reading later this month.
We strongly and respectfully urge the members of town council to consider the many public benefits of this project as it moves to second reading. Please do not delay and risk letting this opportunity pass us by.
Best regards,
Chris Romer
President & CEO
