Members of the Vail Local Housing Authority (VLHA) have voted unanimously to support the proposed Vail Marriott Residence Inn and Workforce Housing project proposed for the former Roost Lodge site in West Vail. In a letter recently sent to Peter Dumon of The Harp Group, developer of the project, the Vail Town Council and the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission (PEC), the VLHA outlined three key reasons why they are strongly in favor of what they deem a “worthwhile project:”

“The proposed project meets the strategic goals of the adopted housing plan; and it furthers the policy objectives of the Deed Restriction Purchase Program; and the development of this project will add at least 107 employee housing rental units to the inventory of EHUs in the Town of Vail.”

“We are pleased to have the unanimous and unequivocal support of the Vail Local Housing Authority,” Dumon said. “It’s clear from the election results on Tuesday that, while recognizing that affordable employee housing is a critical issue facing Eagle County, the voters do not want to foot the bill for this. Our team is proud to be offering a meaningful solution to both a town of Vail and a countywide problem, without burdening the tax payers. We look forward to working closely with the VLHA as this project moves forward.”

The Marriott Residence Inn / Workforce Housing proposal will be before the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission (PEC) for a second review on November 28.

“We received very constructive feedback from the adjacent neighbors, the PEC and Vail’s Design Review Board,” Dumon continued. “Based on these comments, our team has lowered the building height by up to 13’-9”. Other changes in response to comments include moving garage venting locations; increasing the number of parking spaces to 360 spaces; reducing reliance tandem parking (only 14 tandem spaces remain); moving the primary vehicular access to the site to the east away from the immediate neighbor; limiting site and building lighting; and addressing the building facade significantly. I think people will be very happy with the revised plans we’ll be presenting November 28.”
