Initial Attack Crews Respond to Red Table Fire Near Sylvan Lake
Eagle – Crews from the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit responded to reports of smoke and flames at approximately 15:07 on the afternoon of July 13. After receiving the report, dispatch immediately launched initial air attack and one engine.
The Red Table Fire is at ten acres and growing. The fire is located at Anton Cabin Springs Drainage southwest of Sylvan Lake and south east of Lede Reservoir. Smoke is visible from Eagle, CO.
One engine and one helicopter are on site. Two, Type II Hand Crews are in route to the fire. Three Heavy Air Tankers have been dispatched to the area along with 2 Seat Planes. Eight Smokejumpers have also been dispatched out of Grand Junction. One Type 1 Hand Crew has been dispatched and is in route.
Currently, there is a flight restriction order over the area. Please be aware that Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones are a serious impediment to wildland firefighting. If a drone is spotted near a wildfire, aircraft will be grounded for safety reasons which puts firefighter’s safety at risk and stops suppression efforts.
The team is working to assess the situation. There are transmission lines and recreational values at risk. Hot, dry and windy conditions are creating active fire behavior and red flag warnings have been present in the area throughout the week and are expected to persist through tonight.
Resources Dispatched to the Red Table Fire:
- 3 heavy Air Tankers
- 2 Seat Planes
- 8 Smokejumpers staged out of Grand Junction
- 2 Type II Hand Crews
