  • Walking Mountains Science Center Three Locations Open for Summer on June 13th

Have you spent too many summers inside? Join forces with Walking Mountains Science Center and rescue this summer from the indoors. Their entire Summer Programs calendar is now online. Ignite your curious nature beginning June 13th when all of their locations are open daily. In addition to their fun and educational summer science camps for kids, Walking Mountains also offers a variety of adult programs, guided hikes, and family programs all summer long. Many programs are available for online registration at www.walkingmountains.org/sp.

Walking Mountains Science Center – Avon
Open daily starting June 12, Walking Mountains Science Center doubles as a museum and trailhead throughout the summer as well as headquarters for many programs. Weeklong and daily youth camps convene at this location, as well as our monthly Science Behind Series and other fun community programs. Give back and get your hands dirty by joining staff for our Pulling Together Volunteer Days and learn about invasive plant species while you help maintain hiking trails. Come and explore our gorgeous campus on your own or with a Walking Mountains Naturalist guide every day at 2pm for a free Nature Walk.

Vail Nature Center – Vail
This marks the third year of Walking Mountains operating the Vail Nature Center with support from the Vail Recreation District. Admire native wildflowers or meet the diverse bird population with free guided walks departing daily. Feeling nocturnal? Don’t miss out on evening programs like their Beaver Pond Tours at a nearby lodge or roasting s’mores over the fire. For those who aren’t afraid of a little rough and tumble, join us at the Nature Center for the Adult Backcountry Hikes where locals and visitors alike can enjoy full-day or family-friendly half-day quests with a trained naturalist.

Nature Discovery Center – Vail
Need a little perspective? Our Nature Discovery Center sits 10,350 ft. above sea level in the Rocky Mountains. A traditional Mongolian yurt at Eagles Nest atop the Eagle Bahn Gondola, the Discovery Center has interactive exhibits to educate visitors about local ecology and taxidermy examples of local animals. Free daily nature hikes leave from this location twice a day, as well as free evening walks Thursdays-Saturdays. With Walking Mountains’ trained Naturalists always on site, you’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for Colorado. New this year, they’ll be joining forces with Vail’s Epic Discovery offering daily interpretive nature talks along with a roaming ranger to answer all your nature questions.

In addition to the three above locations, Walking Mountains’ staff can also be found at campgrounds throughout Eagle County presenting fireside programs or guiding tours along Gore Creek during the Vail Farmers Market. To learn more about summer programs and to register online visit www.walkingmountains.org/sp. Join them throughout the summer all over Eagle County and rescue summer from the indoors!
