Bright Future Foundation in Avon recently added a new member to its Youth Violence Prevention team. Belle Hollandsworth provides programming at an individual, school, and community level and coordinates all Buddy Mentor program activities. As Eagle County’s only community-driven domestic violence and sexual assault agency, Bright Future Foundation provides prevention and intervention programs and services.
A native of Eagle County, Hollandsworth has a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science from Metro State University with a minor in Elementary Education. She holds a Colorado Elementary Teaching License for K-6, and she has four years of experience teaching 4th and 5th grade, Middle School Math and Language Arts. Hollandsworth also worked in child welfare in Montrose, Colorado.
Buddy Mentors fosters youth through building consistent and trusting relationships between adult volunteers and local children who can benefit from a positive role model. Hollandsworth will oversee junior and senior buddy recruitment, mentor training, and planning and implementation of the Buddy Mentors events.
Bright Future Foundation’s programs serve over 2,300 youth annually in school-based and mentorship programs. Two additional programs have been added to the toolbox: EmpowerMENt and You Grow Girl. EmpowerMENt raises awareness among young men of issues that traditionally have been considered women’s issues. Local middle and high school students are encouraged to play an active leadership role in reducing gender violence, harassment, abuse, and bullying. The You Grow Girl program empowers female middle and high school students with information on how relational aggression affects lives of women and girls and how social norms impact decisions.
