BEAVER CREEK, CO: The Vilar Performing Arts Center (VPAC) invites opera and Broadway lovers alike to enjoy two performances by Teatro Lirico D’Europa – Great Voices: From Broadway to Opera on Tuesday, February 17 at 7:30 PM and Puccini’s La Bohème on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:30 PM. Teatro Lirico D’Europa has established itself as a sought-after international touring opera company after 15 seasons of delivering traditional, full-scale productions, including ten plus years of presenting productions in Beaver Creek. The company features a 45 member troupe of professional musicians, chorus, and opera soloists who perform at the top national theatres in their native countries across Europe, and bring their talents to the U.S. for one tour annually. Tickets to Great Voices start at $78. Tickets to La Bohème start at $75 for adults with a $10 student ticket (18 & under). Both shows are on sale now at the VPAC Box Office (970.845.8497/www.vilarpac.org). The VPAC is located under the ice rink in Beaver Creek Village (68 Avondale Lane, Beaver Creek, Colorado).

Speaking to the variety of programs over the two evenings, VPAC executive director Kris Sabel states “It is a real treat for us to bring a full scale opera to our intimate venue each year. The VPAC is the perfect size venue to experience opera, up close and personal. La Bohème is one of the most popular and accessible operas ever written with its beautiful melodies and passionate love songs. If you are new to opera or have always wanted to find out more, I don’t know that there is a better first opera experience.

The Great Voices program is a crossover concert. We’ve worked with Teatro Lirico to develop an evening of music that capitalizes on the great singers who are here to perform in La Bohème and allow them to sing some of the most famous and recognizable music from the opera world as well as from the Broadway songbook. This show is a treat for anyone who loves great music”.

Great Voices: From Broadway to Opera (February 17) is a concert with a full on-stage orchestra, chorus, and international operatic soloists from Europe and the USA singing highlights from Broadway to Italian canzones to Italian and Spanish pop songs of the 1960s to opera with narration by master of ceremonies. The show is designed to appeal to a broad audience similar to a concert by The Three Tenors or Andrea Bocelli. This is a special concert event featuring Teatro Lirico’s soloists and musicians, singing songs that the great voices of the opera and Broadway stages have made famous over the years. Audiences will find a little something for everyone when these talented performers hit the stage with this all-new concert created just for the VPAC stage.

Already one of the most popular operas in the world, Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème (February 18) has enjoyed an even greater resurgence due to the critical and commercial success of Broadways’ Rent. Jonathan Larson’s hit musical is based on the same story found at the heart of this powerful opera. VPAC’s student price tickets allow young students in the Valley to come experience the production in its original operatic form. Set in the 1830s, La Bohème opens with four bohemian artists struggling to find enough money to cover the rent for their tiny one-floor attic apartment in Paris. What follows is a heart-wrenching tale of love, loneliness and longing told through lyrical melodies, soaring arias and romantic themes. Teatro Lirico D’Europa presents this classic opera in full regalia with a full orchestra, and English surtitles.
