EAGLEVAIL GOLF COURSE EARNS AUDOBON SOCIETY CERTIFICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE

EagleVail Achieves National Recognition with Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Status

January 22, 2015 – Avon, CO – The EagleVail Golf Course announced this morning that it has been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary from Audubon International. The two-year certification process requires demonstration of a high degree of environmental quality in seven specific areas including Environmental Planning, Wildlife and Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management.

“Our team has worked hard towards achieving a self-imposed high set of operational standards focused specifically on environmental stewardship and conservation, and have embraced the opportunity to enhance and protect the local wildlife and its habitats,” stated Brent Barnum, EagleVail Golf Course Superintendent. “We have achieved this monumental task by implementing environmental sensitive maintenance practices, a high standard in water management and by having a strong commitment to environmental quality. Being recognized for this hard work is wonderful and we are very proud to be a part of such elite company.”

Barnum championed EagleVail’s effort to obtain this sanctuary designation, and is being individually recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. A member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary since 2005, the EagleVail Golf Course is the 44th golf course in Colorado and the 914th in the world to be designated as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

“The EagleVail Golf Course Maintenance Department has worked hard to blend environmental responsible maintenance practices into our daily operations,” according to Steven Barber, Director of EagleVail Parks and Golf Course Maintenance. “This certification plays a key role in our community’s focus on improving environmental performance, building community relations, reducing liability, and contributing to the conservation of our environmental resources in the community we all love.”

Doug Bechtel, Executive Director at Audubon International, stated “The EagleVail Golf Course has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for their efforts to provide a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property.”

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides information and guidance to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect natural resources. Golf courses from the United States, Africa, Australia, Canada, Central America, Europe, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia have achieved certification in the program.
