Après Avon a Grand Opening set for December 5th
Avon, CO— The Town of Avon will celebrate the opening of the Main Street Mall and Possibility Plaza on Friday, December 5th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Grant Farm Band featuring Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone will take the stage for a free outdoor concert. Avon’s first winter market will be open, with food, trappings, crafts, drinks, complimentary hot cocoa (while supplies last) and performance art filling out the community gathering, with KZYR radio broadcasting live from the event.
Mayor Jennie Fancher describes the excitement, “I am greeted daily by Avon citizens and residents of the Vail Valley who share with me how impressed and pleased they are with Avon’s recent capital improvements and investments in special events this past year. Most pronounced is our beautiful new pedestrian mall, which begins in the center of Town and connects to the Recreation Center. Town officials planned this dynamic community place over the last seven years, and to be able to celebrate with everyone its completion during the Birds of Prey World Cup weekend is both thrilling and rewarding in bringing these changes to Avon.”
The Town has recently installed an impressive new 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships monument in the most central roundabout on Avon Road, which marks the importance of the east Avon restaurant and retail center and to the west Avon’s dominant lodging base, including the new Wyndham Hotel, pedestrian mall, recreation center, library, Nottingham Park and performance pavilion.
The celebration will emanate from Possibility Plaza, which is the primary plaza of the new mall just east of the Wyndham. Traveling west the mall features 17 bronze statues, climbing boulders, and the spectacular Carrie Fell mural at the Seasons building. The pedestrian mall connects to Avon’s Transit Center and Westin gondola via Lettuce Shed Lane, with direct access to restaurants, businesses and Avon’s new town hall.

Parking for the celebration includes the lot immediately west of the new town hall (known as the skier building), the east Avon Recreation Center parking lots, current town hall parking lots, Lake Street and Benchmark Road.
Après Avon on Main Street Mall, A Grand Opening is a precursor to the13-days of Après Avon, a Daily Street Fair of Music, Tastings & Spontaneity, which will held daily from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM during the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships.
