(Vail, CO) — Art in Public Places (AIPP) is pleased to announce the second year of the Vail Paper Lantern Project in conjunction with the Vail Holidaze tree lighting. Falling upon the winter solstice, enjoy this artful celebration of light at Vail’s annual tree lighting on December 21 at 5:00 p.m. Hot chocolate, treats, music, entertainment, illuminated paper lanterns and the tree lighting will all take place in Slifer Square by the Covered Bridge in Vail Village. New this year, a community lantern walk up Bridge Street to Mountain Plaza will be led by a special surprise guest and helper immediately following the tree lighting.
AIPP will be hosting free paper lantern making workshops, led by local artist Helen Hiebert, with the Vail Public Library preceding the tree lighting. Learn how to create your one-of-a-kind paper lantern to bring to the tree lighting following the workshops.

Vail’s Paper Lantern Project invites residents and guests to come together as a community to share holiday spirit and goodwill during this magical time of year. Like many paper lantern festivals around the world, AIPP hopes that Vail’s Paper Lantern Project will grow to become a beloved tradition during the holidays in the Town of Vail. We encourage all to participate by either attending a workshop or creating your own paper lantern at home. Complimentary LED battery lights for your paper lanterns built at home will be distributed at the tree lighting ceremony.
