Leading Ladies: Screening Dance

Leading up to some of the best dancing seen annually in Vail, The Vail Symposium and the Vail International Dance Festival partner to bring producers Erika and Daniel Beahm to showcase clips from their independent film, “Leading Ladies.”

The zany comedy chronicles two sisters, their overzealous stage mom and gay best friend as they pursue the overwhelming world of competitive ballroom dance. When one sister gets pregnant and the other plans to waltz out of the closet, the family hustles to maintain their status in the dance world.

The movie was the Beahms’ first major production and has garnered multiple film festival awards and nominations. It aired at the Cannes Independent Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Starz Denver Film Festival, and won “Best Feature” at the Palm Beach Women’s International Film Festival.

Together the Beahms will show clips from the film and discuss the points made about competitive dance, America’s quickly evolving gay culture and talk about how they brought dance to life on film. There will be a short reception with food and drink preceding the presentation.

“The presentation by the Beahms will be enjoyed by dance fans and film fans alike,” said Tracey Flower, the Symposium’s Executive Director. “Hearing the producers discuss the film, viewing clips, asking questions and enjoying food and drinks at the reception will make for a great summer evening activity.”
