  • Habitat for Humanity Honors Super Heroes of Housing; Announces Plans for Flood Recovery

Over 250 volunteers and staff from Habitat for Humanity groups across the Rocky Mountain Region and around the country will attend Habitat for Humanity of Colorado’s annual Conference, Camp Colorado: Sustainability Saves the Day, June 4-6th. The participants will be joined by Bill Rosemann, Editor at Marvel Comics, who will inspire participants to unleash their inner superhero.

In an historic announcement, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado will unveil plans to serve 200 flood affected families over the next three years. In support of this effort, the State of Colorado has awarded the organization with $4,000,000 to construct 35 new homes in partnership with flood survivors over the next 12 months. Habitat for Humanity was the first Colorado organization to receive a grant from the Disaster Relief funds awarded to the state from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

On June 5, Rosemann will address board members, staff members, volunteers, Habitat homeowners, and partners at the award dinner, where heroes like Paul Johnson, retiring Executive Director of Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity, will be recognized for their exemplary service. Throughout his 20-plus year career in the industry, Rosemann has been a journalist, copywriter, script writer, “Your Man @ Marvel” blogger, marketing director, project manager and editor, a depth of experience that has allowed him to understand all sides of this colorful world.

From Marvel to DC Comics and back to House of Ideas, Rosemann has worked alongside the industry’s top creators, while writing and editing titles starring famous characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Batman, Superman and the Avengers. Some of Rosemann’s work is being translated in to upcoming movies, including: Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: Winter Soldier.

The event is just one part of a four-day conference which includes high-quality educational sessions and networking opportunities. Camp Colorado is sponsored by Wells Fargo, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, and Habitat for Humanity International among others.

“The unmet needs and devastation created by the flood and by the poverty some Coloradoans can face every day can seem so overwhelming,” stated Stefka Fanchi, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado. “Sometimes it feels like we need superpowers to build change.”
