The Town of Gypsum and the Gypsum Animal Hospital present the 5th Annual Movies & Music, a series of blockbuster films accompanied with live entertainment at Lundgren Theatre in Gypsum, CO June 6, 13, 20 & 27, 2014. The finale event, July 3rd will be Gypsum’s Independence Celebration as a fundraiser for the Gypsum Fire Protection District.
This year we are featuring five great Colorado music or theater acts followed by 5 classic films. On June 6 rock out to the tunes of Swerve of Denver, CO. Then sit back and enjoy the “The Lorax” (2012), an adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss tale directed by Kyle Balda and Chris Renaud and starring the voices of Zac Efron, Danny DeVito and Betty White.
June 13 will feature the sounds of Edgewater Live hailing from Denver, this band will get you up and dancing. The second film in the series will be “Monster’s University” (2013), directed by Dan Scanlon with voices by Billy Crystal, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi. This is the second film in the “Monster’s” series by Pixar Animation Studios.
The third installment on June 20th will feature Gypsum’s own Porchlight Players production of the Caribbean Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale “Once on This Island Jr.” Then when the sun sets, enjoy “Thor 2: The Dark World” (2013). The adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, continue as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman star in this epic directed by Alan Taylor.
On June 27, The Handsome Little Devils of Denver, CO, a vaudevillian magical act, will grace Lundgren Theatre with surprises and astonishment. Then let the curtain rise again for “Oz the Great and Powerful” (2013), a sequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” this magical story starring James Franco and Mila Kunis will amaze and delight.
Then Thursday July 3, join the town of Gypsum and the Gypsum Fire Department for an Independence Celebration with free munchies, Firefighter Olympics and kids amusements starting at 4pm. Listen to the big band tunes of the “Celebration Nation Orchestra” and then sit back and enjoy the 4th of July, Adam Sandler classic, “Grown Ups” (2010).
Arrive early for the best spots to sit and park. Live entertainment will begin at 6:00pm. Before each film, we are pleased to present a short montage from the Colorado Film Commission featuring clips of movies filmed in Colorado. Feature movies will begin at dusk (around 8:30 pm).
