The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries, awarded Verified status to Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, Inc., of Eagle, Colorado, on February 20, 2014.
Verification means that MVHR meets the criteria of a true equine sanctuary/rescue and is providing humane and responsible care of the animals. To be awarded Verified status, an organization must meet GFAS’s rigorous and peer-reviewed animal care standards which are confirmed by a site visit and they must also adhere to a demanding set of ethical and operational principles.
“Mountain Valley Horse Rescue provides an important service to surrounding communities by serving as a rescue and rehabilitation resource for equines in need,” said Jackie Beckstead, GFAS Director of Accreditation and Field Operations. “Here at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, we put a high premium in providing local law enforcement with an option when they have to seize and care for horses that are abused and neglected,” explained Shana Devins, Director of Mountain Valley Horse Rescue. She continued, “GFAS verification is very important to us, because it underscores our commitment to providing top –quality care to the horses we save, and provides us with a blueprint for our efforts to continuously build and improve our operation. We are appreciative of the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and proud to have received GFAS Verification.”
