The Town of Vail is inviting residents, guests and others who are interested in the town government’s activities to join in a celebration of Vail’s 50th Anniversary during the Annual Community Meeting on Tuesday, March 12 at Donovan Pavilion. Hosted by the Vail Town Council, doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and will include refreshments and appearances by local artists and authors who will be on hand to sign books, posters and other 50th Anniversary commemorative items. In addition, a booklet containing a retrospective of Vail’s community milestones will be distributed.
At 5:30 p.m., the evening’s keynote program will be presented which will be highlighted by a discussion of Vail’s triumphs and challenges by a panel of elected officials from Vail’s past and present. Former mayors Peggy Osterfoss, Rob Ford and Dick Cleveland, along with past mayor and current Mayor Pro Tem Ludwig Kurz will join Mayor Andy Daly in a discussion that will also include the current state of the town and its future. The session will be moderated by Rob LeVine, a former town council member and general manager of the Antler’s at Vail.
The evening will also include welcoming remarks by Town Manager Stan Zemler and an update from Vail Resorts represented by Jeff Babb, director of resort operations; Paul Fillion, senior director of mountain operations; and Davy Ratchford, director of Vail Mountain Marketing.
Representatives from Vail’s Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum will also be present hosting a Vail Historical Record collection booth with a future goal of compiling a complete history of Vail. The museum is collecting stories, photographs and other items that will be added to its Vail history archives.
