The Vail Valley Jet Center in partnership with the Vail Automotive Classic’s Wheels & Wings, and the FAA have worked together to accomplish closing airspace over Eagle County Regional Airport for the Warbird flight demonstration.
“We are excited to offer attendees of the event a greater feel of the aircraft, “ says Jaime Roosa of the Vail Valley jet Center. “This year, we have had a tremendous amount of interest in this event, and to be able to offer an airshow of this kind is unprecedented. It will take the Wings part of the event to the next level- and will draw even greater interest next year.”
The flyover will begin at 1PM Saturday September 8. It will include a T-28, T-6, P-51 Mustang, Sea Fury and CJ-6. In addition to the flyover, there are over 40 aircraft on static display. The Wheels & Wings event is growing not only with its cars, but is gaining a tremendous amount of respect amongst the aircraft portion as well. Planes are coming in from all over the country and are generating more and more excitement.
Vail Automotive Classic
The Vail Automotive Classic kicks of Friday 9/7 with the first live Auto auction in Eagle County. Over 15 hand selected vehicles will be auctioned off, including a Jaguar that has been donated to raise funds for Jack’s Place- a Cancer Caring house at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center. The preview begins at 4PM, with live music from Hardscrabble kicking off at 4:30, BBQ, and cash bar. The auction begins at 6:30, and will be followed by a scotch tasting provided by Glenfiddich. The event is free and open to the public.
Saturday 9/8 doors to the Wheels & Wings show open at 10AM. Over 40 static aircraft, flyover of the Warbirds, display of over 100 automobiles and motorcycles make this event unique to the Vail Valley. The Wheels & Wings is gaining in its reputation and has been growing in interest each year.
Sunday 9/9 the cars move to Vail Village, and will be on display in Vail Village, as well as atop the Vail Village Parking structure- with dynamic views of the beautiful Gore Range. Vail Village offers viewers an opportunity to vote on their favorite vehicle through the People’s Choice Award. Voting will take place from 9:30-12:30. Winner will be announced at 1PM.
