With a philosophy grounded in healthy living on holiday, Vail Mountain Lodge is pleased to welcome back healthy cooking expert Martha Rose Shulman during Vail Restaurant Week 2012. Shulman is an award-winning, health-minded cookbook author and co-author, and creator of the nytimes.com daily recipe feature “Recipes for Health.” She will present cooking demonstrations, during “Health & Outdoors” week, at Terra Bistro restaurant at Vail Mountain Lodge on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29, with a focus on healthy choices and pleasurable experiences.
“This has become one of our favorite events,” said Vail Mountain Lodge General Manager Frank Johnson. “Our philosophy aligns perfectly with Martha’s expertise in healthful food choices and we’re pleased to offer two learning opportunities at Terra Bistro.”
Shulman’s evening presentation, including an intimate cooking demonstration and dinner on Friday, Sept. 28, has proved popular, selling out for the past two years. The menu includes tasty and healthy Mediterranean salads, fish chowder and sorbet with a generous helping of healthy eating tips and interactive exchange with attendees. Her devotion to “eating well” – eating food that is delicious and good for the body, food that is vibrant and light, and food that is fun to cook – is the inspiration for this special evening at Terra Bistro.
New this year, Shulman also will host a lunch program, on Saturday, Sept. 29, that focuses on preparation of healthy picnic choices. The session includes a guided hike with Vail Vitality Center professional coach Abby Ruby, PhD, where participants can enjoy the picnic lunch prepared earlier. Vail Vitality Center is located at Vail Mountain Lodge and offers a variety of programs, experiences and classes that teach and demonstrate opportunities for healthy living.
Reservations for either or both events may be made through Terra Bistro, by calling 970-476-6836. The cooking demonstration and dinner on Sept. 28 begins at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $75 per person plus alcohol, tax and gratuity. The picnic preparation, lunch and hike on Sept. 29 begin at 11 a.m. and the cost is $45 per person plus tax and gratuity.
Vail Mountain Lodge is offering a special lodging package for those who would like to enjoy the weekend in Vail, along with both events. The package includes three nights’ lodging plus reservations for both the dinner and picnic/hike. Cost is $385 per person, per night based upon double occupancy, and is available from Sept. 27 – Sept. 30, 2012.
