  • Vail Vitality Center Hosts Inaugural Commando Bootcamp Games

One-day event includes Bootcamp training and competition, metabolic testing, nutrition shakes, energy bars, discounted spa treatments and awards dinner at Terra Bistro.

Ever wonder what it would be like to train with a former Naval officer? Vail Vitality Center at Vail Mountain Lodge is giving 25 athletes the chance to find out during the upcoming Commando Bootcamp Games, September 8, 2012.

The Commando Bootcamp Games consist of an intensive training program led by founder Jim Reynolds, Master Chief, Petty Officer for this unique group fitness challenge. Reynolds served in the U.S. Navy for four years and completed the first phase of Navy SEAL training, known as B.U.D.S. He began his fitness career at 80 pounds overweight and has earned professional certifications, including CPR, AFAA group fitness, ACE Personal Trainer and NASM Personal Trainer. He has helped hundreds of people through both group fitness instruction and personal training.

“Master Chief Reynolds has put unimaginable time and effort into creating this real-life experience,” said Vail Vitality Center Director Jeff Morgan. “We applaud Jim and his fellow troops for bringing Commando Bootcamp to the Vail Valley, even if it is punishing!”

The Commando Bootcamp Games are intended to push individual participants to their maximum fitness potential. And six drill instructors – Colorado’s top personal trainers – will be on hand to provide the motivation to succeed.

The full-day event includes a morning training session and an afternoon competition. The morning session is a grueling two-hour workout featuring military-style drills, such as the LOG, Bulgarian Sand Bags, Tractor Tires, Jump Boxes and nine obstacle challenges borrowed from the U.S. Army Physical Fitness Test Manual. The afternoon session features a competition consisting of an obstacle course, eight exercises designed to test strength and endurance, and a one-mile timed run. The competition measures each participant’s speed, agility, strength, endurance and the ability to utilize lactic acid throughout high bouts of exercise. Male and female winners will be announced at the Terra Bistro celebration dinner.
