The Town of Vail is seeking community members to fill two vacancies on the Local Licensing Authority (commonly known as the Liquor Board), one opening on the Vail Local Housing Authority and one vacancy on the Vail Commission on Special Events. Applications are due to the town by 5 p.m. May 29. Applicants will be interviewed by the Town Council at its June 5 afternoon work session, with appointments to follow at its evening meeting.

The five-member Vail Local Licensing Authority meets the second Wednesday of each month beginning at 10 a.m. in the Vail Town Council Chambers. This volunteer board reviews all Town of Vail liquor license applications. The two vacancies are for two-year terms ending June 1, 2014. To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens, registered voters within the Town of Vail, reside in the Town of Vail no less than two years preceding appointment and have no direct financial interest in any license to sell alcoholic beverages or any location having any such license.

The Vail Local Housing Authority is responsible for advancing the town’s affordable housing initiatives. This five-member board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. with additional meetings scheduled on an as-needed basis. The term of appointment for the vacant position will take effect June 7 and is for a five-year term expiring May 31, 2017. Applicants must be full-time, year-round residents of Eagle County who are either residents of the Town of Vail or work for a business holding a Town of Vail business license. Technical experience in one of the following areas is also desirable: financing of large projects, development, construction or construction management, planning, design or legal.

The opening on the Vail Commission on Special Events (CSE) has been created by a mid-term vacancy with the appointment to complete the balance of the term which ends on December 31, 2012. Applicants must be a resident, property owner, business owner, or employee within the Town of Vail. Duties of the seven-member CSE include creating, funding and seeking special events for the Town of Vail; evaluating event applications and event success; submitting an annual budget for operations and events; coordinating the community calendar for special events; seeking out additional funding for special events through sponsorships and donations; evaluating and executing contracts for special events; and all other functions as directed by the Town Council. The CSE typically meets in the morning on the first Wednesday of each month in the Vail Town Council Chambers.
