Position Title: Marble & Granite – Project Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt, Salaried
Location: Vail, CO

Reporting Relationship: Regional Manager

Supervises: Superintendent, Foreman

Position Summary:

A Project Manager– Marble & Granite (PM) manages projects within the marble & granite scope of work, which aligns with the mission, vision, values and goals of The Gallegos Corporation. The PM III will have advanced knowledge of the trades which they are managing and demonstrated organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills. The PM III exemplifies customer service when dealing directly with the owner, vendors, project superintendents, architects, general contractors, and internal customers in all departments. In addition, this position leads and develops PM I and II as well as Superintendents and Foremen ensuring successful training by offering guidance, knowledge and skills on specific areas of expertise in order to grow internal talent.

Operations 50%

  • Ensure the highest standard of safety for all employees at all times on projects.
  • Collaborate with estimating on handoff and budget development at the beginning of each project following the pre-job planning process and possess the ability to price work. Identify and address long lead time items at this phase of the project.
  • Advanced knowledge of contract ensuring permits, licenses and other legal paperwork are completed.
  • Validate and verify project documents in order to plan procedures for construction, starting and completion times, and staffing requirements for each phase of construction, including the marble fabrication plant.
  • Develop detailed schedule for planning and tracking of manpower, equipment, work orders, cash flow, and risk management.
  • Initiate and complete the Pre-Job Planning process with the input of Marble Fabrication Plant Manager, Superintendent and Foreman to ensure proper manpower, equipment, and material is in place prior to beginning any work.
  • Responsible to facilitate/coordinate with all stakeholders through the Short Interval Planning (SIP) process scheduling proper tools, equipment, material, and manpower ensuring all are present throughout the project as requested by the field staff.
  • Manage Superintendent/Foreman and ensure accountability to and adherence of the SIP and Daily Huddle processes.
  • Analyze and communicate staffing needs for current and upcoming projects.
  • Provide manpower planning; reviews roles, responsibilities and staffing requirements.
  • Initiate and complete the Exit Strategy process with a high level of input from the Superintendent and Foreman in order to complete all projects with minimal punch list and maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in and provide un-biased feedback relative to the Post Job Review process.
  • Coordinate work sequence with Fabrication Plant Manager and other Project Managers to ensure customer satisfaction on all projects.
  • Direct Superintendent, Foreman, Fabrication Plant Manager, and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Confer with general contractor, engineering personnel, inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to prevent construction problems and recommend improvements to construction methods.
  • Ability to inspect work in progress, ensuring workmanship conforms to specifications, adherence to construction schedules and estimated productivity and quality.
  • Ability to validate predecessor work for correct installation prior to commencement of project or mobilization of crew.
  • Manage all change documents (ASI, RFI, CCD, RFC) on a given project and respond to the General Contractor accordingly.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Marble & Granite
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager.

 

Financial Management 20%

  • Collaborate with the Accounting and HR Departments to ensure budgets are setup; manage and maintain budget throughout the course of each project.
  • Develop weekly (Bird Report) and monthly Project Budget Analyses (BTA) to ensure profitability of each project.
  • Manage all job site production ensuring accurate recording with adherence to established Accounting procedures.
  • Develop, monitor and communicate the proposed schedule of values with consideration of cash flow, change orders, duration, etc.
  • Monitor and manage project billings to facilitate positive cash flow per project.
  • Ensure most cost effective method of purchasing is executed at all times with adherence to established Accounting procedures.
  • Create, submit, and track and report monthly billing for all projects assigned by Regional Manager.

Performance Management 15%

  • Attract, recruit, develop and retain strong field supervisors.
  • Improve individual safety and productivity in others through teaching proper methods for completing work.
  • Balance positive reinforcement with corrections and ask for feedback to improve transfer of knowledge and skills.
  • Confer with Foreman, Superintendent, and Fabrication Plant Manager to analyze staffing needs to better enable the recruitment and hiring process.
  • Monitor employee performance, train, mentor, document disciplinary issues and participate in termination decisions.
  • Ensure Foremen, Superintendent, and Fabrication Plant Manager provide timely and consistent feedback of project progress in communication with all project staff

Risk Management 10%

  • Ensure operations are consistent with the company’s policies and objectives ensuring execution of full risk protection for the organization.
  • Ensure all company, federal and state safety requirements are being met.
  • Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
  • Ensure Foremen and Superintendents are managing company risk through proper project documentation (daily reports and daily huddles).
  • Analyze and maintain in depth knowledge of all project contracts from negotiation through completion. Responsible for decision making in accordance with all contract clauses through lifecycle of project.
  • Advanced knowledge of contract language, ability to escalate contractual risk, anomalies, immediately to Regional Manager.

Business Development 5%

  • Develops and maintains client relationships to ensure that corporate strategy and goals are obtained.
  • Track new project leads, communicate and collaborate with CBDO and Regional Manager on potential new projects.
  • Provide estimates for labor, material, and subcontract costs utilizing knowledge of Budget to Actuals for use in bids prepared by estimators.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
  • Extremely strong technical knowledge in the Marble & Granite industry
  • 5-10 years of equivalent work experience and/or trade school
  • Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • OSHA 10 hour certification
  • Trade membership, such as MIA or TCNA
  • LEED certification and/or experience

Requirements:

· Advanced Plan reading skills

· Demonstrated Leadership skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially MSExcel and Job Cost specific software, such as Timberline

· Basic understanding and use of the English language. Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred.

· Attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Observes all safety procedures, reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses equipment and materials properly.
