Nature Nerds Unite! At Walking Mountains Science Center, ‘Nature Nerd’ is a term of endearment only given to our most respected staff who are ready to awaken a sense of wonder in locals and visitors alike about this beautiful place we call home.

Founded nearly 20 years ago as a resource for local students, we have grown to include the Nature Discovery Center on Vail Mountain, the Vail Nature Center, and our Platinum LEED-certified Science Center in Avon. We connect 80,000 people annually of all ages with nature through our school field studies, outdoor excursions (guided snowshoes & hikes), hands-on community programs for pre-k to gray, and business sustainability and stewardship programs.
