  • Peter Rossi, MD, Radiation Oncologist at Valley View’s Calaway • Young Cancer Center, Named a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology

The world’s largest society for radiation oncology professionals recently voted to confer upon Peter Rossi, MD, the designation of American Society for Radiation Oncology Fellow (FASTRO). Dr. Rossi will receive his FASTRO designation at an awards ceremony in San Antonio on Tuesday, October 25, during ASTRO’s 64th Annual Meeting.

A board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Rossi is part of Valley View’s Calaway • Young Cancer Center, where he works with the Center’s team to create a personalized treatment plan for each patient. Dr. Rossi has more than 15 years of clinical experience and participates in a multidisciplinary team on a daily basis and utilizes multi-institutional academic research to provide his patients with the best possible care.

“Dr. Rossi joins an elite group of just 27 physicians and medical physicists who are recognized this year for their far-reaching contributions to the field of radiation oncology and their progress in advancing cancer research, education and patient care,” said Laura A. Dawson, MD, FASTRO, Chair of the ASTRO Board of Directors. “Congratulations to Dr. Rossi for achieving the designation of ASTRO Fellow.”

Awarded annually since 2006, the ASTRO Fellows program recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to radiation oncology through research, education, patient care and/or service to the field. Since its inception, the FASTRO designation has been awarded to just 421 of ASTRO’s 10,000 members worldwide.

More information about the Fellows program is available via the ASTRO website, including the complete list of ASTRO Fellows and information about the nomination and selection process.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected as an American Society for Radiation Oncology Fellow,” said Dr. Rossi. “At the Calaway • Young Cancer Center, we utilize a collaborative and communicative approach to support high-quality, compassionate care for each patient, and this wouldn’t be possible without my incredible team.”

Earlier this year, Dr. Rossi also was elected President of the American Brachytherapy Society, a nonprofit organization that is the leading authority in Brachytherapy standards, research, education and training that benefit cancer patients and improve their quality of life, for the 2022-2023 term. He previously held the role of Vice President. Additionally, Dr. Rossi was selected as a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor for the eighth year in a row. The list is based on peer reviews and represents only the top 7 percent of doctors in the nation.

Dr. Rossi has been published in many medical journals and studies. He most recently published a study on low dose rate (LDR) prostate brachytherapy to treat prostate cancer and on advanced molecular imaging for detection of prostate cancer. Recognized internationally for his expertise on prostate cancer, Dr. Rossi published this paper alongside his peers of prostate experts.
