AvonLIVE! and SunsetLIVE! concerts, Avon Arts Celebration, XTERRA USA Championship Festival, and Salute to the USA are back at the center of Avon this summer

With summer excitement building, the Town of Avon announces its full 2022 event schedule. Harry A. Nottingham Park, the spectacular Avon Performance Pavilion, and the Terrace overlooking the lake will again be the prominent gathering centers for both everyday enjoyment and major outdoor events.

The 2022 event lineup offers a blend of free and ticketed events. Free live music kicks off this Sunday, May 29, with SunsetLIVE! from 6 – 8:00 p.m. featuring Rocket Parade on the Terrace at Nottingham Park. Weekly SunsetLIVE! concerts offer casual musical performances by local Eagle County musicians most Sunday evenings through early September. Enjoy a spectacular sunset and great music while lounging by the lake or on the south lawn of the pavilion.

The seventh annual Town Clean Up Day, a chance for residents to do some spring cleaning around Town, will happen on Saturday, June 4. The Town will be divided into sections, with Town Staff captaining each section identified for clean-up. Volunteer registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Avon Town Hall, located at 100 Mikaela Way. The clean-up will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., after which volunteers will head back to Town Hall for free food and drink provided by Ein Prosit and live music from Dina & Mauricio Cadavid.

The second annual Art Around Avon Walk showcases nineteen new sculptures which will be on exhibition through May of 2023. Art Around Avon Walk begins at 6:00 p.m. at Avon Town Hall on Friday, June 10.

The third annual Pride in the Park takes place on Saturday, June 18. The event is a day-long celebration, accompanied by a week of activities, that draws visitors from throughout the mountains of Colorado. Saturday’s celebration ends the week’s jam-packed schedule of activities designed to keep everyone engaged. Pride in the Park celebrates the active and diverse accomplishments of Colorado’s LGBTQIA+ communities and raises funds for Mountain Pride, a local organization that serves our LGBTQIA+ community throughout the Colorado Mountains.

The AvonLIVE! community concert series kicks off on June 22, offering ten exceptional evenings of free live music on Wednesdays in June, July and August, rain or shine! The summer concert series features award-winning national talent and provides the community an opportunity to come together and experience music, fresh and unique foods from food trucks, refreshing beverages from the Hahnewald Bar and enjoy a summer evening outside.

Avon’s weekly live music offerings wouldn’t be complete without Pop-Up Music. Pop Up Music offers a bit of surprise and delight as you stroll the Main Street Mall enjoying the exquisite bronze sculpture collection, Art Around Avon temporary art installation or while dining at one of our local eateries. Each Saturday beginning June 25, our featured acoustic musicians will perform between 12 and 2:00 p.m.

An Avon tradition, the 36th annual Salute to the USA will take place on Sunday, July 3 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with family friendly festivities going on throughout the park. Face painters, stilt walkers, balloon sculptors, magicians and old-fashioned family-fun will be complimented by concessions offering beverages and a large selection of food options. Live music is sure to keep you dancing and singing, followed by a breath-taking laser show lighting up Nottingham Park and nearby hillside!

Lakeside Cinema returns to Avon on nine Fridays throughout the summer starting on July 8, offering a variety of free movies throughout the summer from adult classics to family friendly animations. Bring a picnic and come watch some of your favorite movies outside on the big screen! Movies start at dusk – around 8:15 p.m.

New this year is a SunsetSUP race series on select Friday evenings on Nottingham Lake. This inaugural SUPer fun SUP race series on Nottingham Lake offers paddlers a chance to win prizes and/or bragging rights! Compete with other paddlers and meet new paddling enthusiasts at SunsetSUP!

2022 will be the first-time XTERRA has hosted its national championship in Avon, following 12 seasons at Snowbasin Resort in Utah (2009-2021) and eight years in Incline Village, Nevada (2001-2008). There will be $25,000 in prize money awarded equally to the top ten elite men and women, plus XTERRA USA Championship crowns to age group division winners along with 51 qualifying spots into the 2022 XTERRA World Championship to be held in Trentino, Italy on October 1.

In addition to the main event, XTERRA will host sprint and relay races along with a variety of other endurance events for the whole family including kid’s races, yard games, vendor booths, food trucks, beer gardens, and live music featuring Trout Steak Revival at the marvelous open air Avon Performance Pavilion in Nottingham Park, the heart of the Valley.

The third annual Avon Arts Celebration returns for two full weekends beginning July 22 through July 24 and July 29 through July 31. Avon Arts Celebration includes several mediums such as printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, jewelry, wood, fiber and photography.

Some local favorites will return later in the summer, including Dancing in the Park, Vail Valley Brew-Au, the Avon Community Picnic and Man of the Cliff.

Several sporting events, including the Vail Lacrosse Tournament, Vail Valley Soccer Tournament, Dunk N’ Dash and Open Water Swim Championships all bring a wide variety of athletes and spectators to Avon throughout the summer.
