Destination Preservation ®: The Environmental Sustainability Program at the Vail Valley Partnership

Program Objective:
Develop a voluntary & non-regulatory program to acknowledge & reward environmentally conscious facilities in the Vail Valley business/hospitality community.

Why Participate?
The Environmental Sustainability Program is an effort to encourage the Vail Valley hospitality industry to conserve and protect our natural environment, to increase awareness of best practices and to help businesses save money while protecting the environment.

Program Checklist:

Involvement requires a signed pledge that organization will incorporate green business practices & sustainability into decision-making on all levels of operation.

Businesses will be required to provide a list of best practices.

Business must provide their action plan and/or policy statement of sustainable activities.

Business must have or create an employee "green team".

Business must inform your customers of your green business efforts.

Business must attend at least one green/sustainable educational seminar per calendar year.

Business must complete a self-assessment - business to provide at least three things they are doing "better" (ie, more green, sustainable practices, etc) than last year, one of which would provide one significant "green" benefit.

Program Benefits:

The Town of Vail will provide a 30 minute consultation to all participating businesses within the Town of Vail at no charge.

Eagle River Water and Sanitation District to provide free internal water audit & Consultation.

Partnership to create an "Annual Green Report" which consolidates best practices by industry segment (restaurant, lodging, retail, etc) and which highlights the positive impacts the green program has on the community.

The Partnership will consolidate best practices by business segment (restaurant, lodging, retail, etc) and distributed to business community.

Program participants will receive a static window sticker indicating they are a program participant.

Program participants will be eligible for the "Green Business of the Year" award at the Vail Valley Partnership's annual Gala & Success Awards (business must still be nominated by the community).

Program participants will receive website exposure on VailValleyPartnership.com & VisitVailValley.com

Program participants have access to a number of Local Resources to assist their green business planning.

Program Cost & Details:
Application Fee: $150 per business (fee waived for first year for all Town of Vail businesses)

To participate:
1. Complete the "matrix for change" form
2. Complete/sign pledge
3. Return completed information to Chris Romer, Vail Valley Partnership, PO Box 1130, Vail, CO or via email at cromer@visitvailvalley.com
4. Businesses are able to participate in the program for two years prior to providing measurement & tracking of their Green Business Goals (to include tracking & monitoring water, energy & hazardous waste usage).
